Born in Tokyo in 1992, Kawakatsu Tokushige is a manga artist with works such as Denwa, suimin, ongaku (Telephone, Sleep, Music), Antoroposen no inu dorobo (Dognapper of the Anthropocene), and Yasegaman no setsu (Grin and Bear It), all published by LEED. He also been published in English by Glacier Bay Books with short stories featured in the anthology Glaeolia Vols. 1 and 2, and his first full-length work in English, The Cursed Body. He reviewed the prewar children’s manga series “Nakamura Manga Library” in a series of essays titled Yume to juryoku (Dreams and Gravity) which was serialized in the magazine Mandarake ZENBU until August 2024.

Through the MINT Project, Kawakatsu attended a book launch and signing for The Cursed Body at Desert Island in Brooklyn, New York City. He was also a panelist in the “Alternative Manga: Yesterday and Today” talk event at the School of Visual Arts alongside editor Emily Yoshimoto and NYC-based manga artist/artist Kondoh Akino. Historian and manga translator Ryan Holmberg moderated the event. After his time in NYC, he also visited Toronto Comic Arts Festival 2026 where he participated in a panel talk and did book signings.
