NewsThe French Version of Marco Kohinata’s Akari Wins the ACBD Award

Officially announced at this year’s Japan Expo on July 9th, Kohinata Marco’s Akari wins the Asian Award at the 20th ACBD Awards.

The story of Akari tells a tale of a grieving stained-glass artist and his estranged granddaughter who comes to stay with him; a beautiful homage to Marco’s own grandfather. The watercolor strokes used in the illustration masterfully convey the light and transparency of the glass, despite it being drawn completely in black and white.

The ACBD Award is given out by the Association des Critiques et des Journalistes de Bande Dessinée, a prominent French association of comic book critics and journalists, with the Asian Award aiming to highlight the best comic or manga published in French.
